Below
are some suggestions we've compiled based on our
experience of safely and responsibly relocating
families and individuals throughout Northern California.
|
|
1.
Make yourself a list of things to
do.
2.
Take an inventory
of your home. Decide what to keep, what
to give away. Donate
items you no longer want or have a yard
sale.
3.
Call E-ZMOVE to book your move date reservation.
4.Create a file for all
important moving related documents. Many
moving expenses are tax deductible so save
your receipts.
5. List all the rooms/closets/areas
that need to be packed. Begin packing as
soon as you know you're moving. Start with
items you don't often use. See: packing
tips.
6.
Pick up a free Moving Guide from your local
post office & fill out the Change of
Address form. You can also change your address
online at www.usps.gov
. |
1. Continue
packing.
2. Arrange
to have your utilities stopped at you
old address and started at your new home.
Arrange for services to be switched off
1-2 days after you move from the
old address / switched on 1-2 days prior
to move date at your new address. This
will eliminate most mishaps or hassles.
Contact the following utility companies:
- Phone
- Heat / Electric
- Water
- Cable
- Trash Removal
|
|
3. Once you have your new
phone number, call your long distance carrier
directly and sign up for, or transfer, your
savings programs and services.

| Remember
the following as your final
preparation for the "Big Day":
- Put
the file with all your moving-related
documents
in your Survival
Kit. Put your
kit in an out of the way place
(i.e.: the bathtub) so you will
always know where it is.
-
E-ZMOVE
will call you to confirm the
details of your move 1-2 days
prior to your move. At that
point you should inform E-ZMOVE
of any additional boxes or items
not previously mentioned.
•
Also remember to discuss:
all physical elements such
as steep driveways, long walks,
stairs, difficult parking
etc... (so
we can come expertly prepared
with the requisite number
of movers & equipment)!
- Be
sure to walk through your house
one last time to make sure everything
is accounted for & packed.
-
Get a good night's sleep!
- ON

Start
with the essentials:
• A pad of Paper or Spiral Notebook
• Sturdy Boxes
• Plain Newsprint for wrapping
things up,
• Packaging tape. (approximately
1 roll per room) • Scissors
and markers to number and label each
box. • Use Spiral notebook
to list box #'s. Write a brief inventory
of what's in each box so you can later
identify what's in the box from your
inventory notebook. |
|
|
• Mark on
each box where it belongs in your
new home. |
 |
|
•
Disconnect
all electronics.
• Contain all cords with a twist
tie, tape, or rubberband.
• Take down and box any pictures
that will fit into a box. •
File cabinets must be emptied if stairs
are involved in your move. All lateral
file cabinets must be emptied prior
to moving any distance. •
Drawers rule of thumb: remove any
items that could fall out if the furniture
is tilted in any direction. •
Dresser drawers: If a dresser is large
or heavy remove contents. If a dresser
is moderately heavy only remove those
items that could fall out if the piece
is tilted in any direction. |
 |
|
•
Reinforce
the bottom of all your boxes with
tape for added strength.
• Put your heaviest items in
small boxes. • Put lighter
items together in larger boxes.
• Wrap fragile items like dishes
and vases, individually. Pad the bottom
of the box in which you pack with
towels, sheets or curtains (liquor
boxes & dishpacks are perfect
for packing glassware). Clearly lable
appropriate boxes 'fragile' and which
end is 'up'. |
•
Wrap small pictures individually and
stack them side by side in a box.
Stick masking tape in a crisscross
pattern across large mirrors or framed
glass
items as extra support before packing
them. Pack these items separately,
first wrapping them in paper, then
packing each in a glass pack or mirror
carton (available through most packing
supply stores). • If the
box isn't completely full, pad the
inside of the box with additional
paper to cut down on movement.
•
Books/Videos/CD's & DVD's must
go in small boxes. Double tape boxes
with these items in them. •
Boxes that are too heavy (requiring
2 or more movers to lift) isn't time
efficient. Packing boxes propperly
and effectively, will aid in a prompt
and safe move. • E-ZMOVE
provides wardrobes
for hanging clothes to transport from
"A" to "B". Wardrobes
are not available on one-way or storage
moves. Lightweight items (pillows
etc) can be put in the bottom of the
wardrobe to optimize space. |
•
For furniture that must be disassembled,
put hardware in a plastic bag and
tape the bag directly to the piece
of furniture itself. That way you'll
always know what goes with what.
• Put your lampshades in one
large box with plenty of padding and
label the box. |
