Residential Packing

Below are some suggestions we've compiled based on our experience of safely and responsibly relocating small, medium and large businesses throughout Northern California.

1. Make yourself a list of things to do.
2. Take an inventory of your workplace noting the number of desks, computers, furniture items, etc.
3.
Call E-ZMOVE to discuss move date(s) and requirements of your move.
4. Create a file for moving related documents.
5. Start packing items / equipment that you don't often use.
6. Pick up a free Moving Guide from your local post office & fill out the Change of Address form. You can also change your address online at www.usps.gov .

• Phone
• Power

Contact Pac Bell and PG&E to arrange to have utilities stopped at your old address and started at your new address. Arranging to have services switched off 1-2 days after you move from the old address and switched on 1-2 days prior to move date at your new address, will eliminate most related mishaps or hassles. Once you have your new phone number(s), call your long distance carrier directly and sign up for, or transfer, your savings programs and services.Send Vendors / Clients your new address.Contact your Printing Company for updated letterhead and business cards to be ready directly after your company's move.
• Continue Packing!

Pack a Survival kit - What you need on hand when first arriving at the new site:
• Keys - to your new office/ building and or storage units.
• Basic Tools - hammer, screwdriver, nails, masking tape, tape measure, flashlight, light bulbs, pocket knife, trash bags.
• Other items - hand soap, toilet paper, paper towels, sponges, and cleaners,
• Payment - For the movers, in correct form. Tip money.
Finish all packing and make sure boxes are appropriately labeled and sealed.

Remember the following as your final
preparation for the "Big Day":
Be sure to have the following in preparation for the big day:
  • The file with all your moving-related documents and your survival kit. Keep your survival kit in an out of the way place- like a closet so you will always know where it is. All pathways need to be clear and accessible.
  • Have elevators reserved / and any keys or codes required are ready for the movers.
  • Computers and all electronics are disconnected. Copier attachments are removed.
Have all desk, counter or table tops cleared off completely.
    Things to Remember:
E-ZMOVE will call you to confirm the details of your move 1-2 days prior to your move. At that point you should inform
E-ZMOVE of any additional boxes or items not previously mentioned.
  • Do a final walk through to make sure everything is accounted for & packed.
  • ON MOVE DAY: Breathe deeply, relax and remember: We've been Professionally Moving folks daily for almost 10 years and we think you'll be pleasantly surprised by how smoothly your move is accomplished! Rest assured, you are in great hands with
    E-ZMOVE!

Start with the essentials:
• A pad of Paper or Spiral Notebook.
• Sturdy Boxes
• Newsprint for wrapping things up,

• Packaging tape. (approximately 1 roll per room)
• Scissors and markers to number and label boxes.
• Label each box with a number, contents and office designation- i.e.: Box #3 / Books / Office 'A'.
Tip: Record the # of boxes per office to make a quick inventory easier later on. Please also remember to put a sign on the door of office 'A' for us at the new location!
1. Disconnect all electronics.Contain all cords with a twist tie, tape, or rubberbands.
2. Take down and box any pictures that will fit into a box.
3. File cabinets must be emptied if stairs are involved in your move.
4. All lateral file cabinets must be emptied prior to moving any distance.
5. Drawers: If an item is large or heavy remove the contents. If it is moderately heavy only remove those items that could fall out if the piece is tilted in any direction.

• Reinforce the bottom of all your boxes with tape for added strength.
• Put your heaviest items in small boxes.
• Put lighter items together in larger boxes.
• Wrap fragile items like coffee mugs and vases, individually.
• For furniture that must be disassembled, put hardware in a plastic bag and tape the bag directly to the piece of furniture itself. That way you'll always know what goes with what.

• Put your lampshades in one large box with plenty of padding and label the box.
• Wrap small pictures individually and stack them side by side in a box. Stick masking tape in a crisscross pattern across large mirrors or framed glass items as extra support before packing them. Pack these items separately, first wrapping them in paper, then packing each in a glass pack or mirror carton (available through most packing supply stores).
• If a box isn't completely full, pad the inside of the box with additional paper to cut down on movement.
• Books/Videos/CD's & other media must go in small boxes. Double tape boxes with these items in them.
• Boxes that are too heavy (requireing 2 or more movers to lift) isn't time efficient. Packing boxes propperly and effectively, will aid in a prompt and safe move.

Please pack carefully.
